The World Championships Regulation

1. General Information
1.1. The International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA), with the cooperation of the member associations, is
organizing the Ski Instructors World Championships.
1.2. The World Championships will be held every 4 years (during the INTERSKI convention interval).
1.3. The objective of the World Championships is to re-enforce, in a prestigious environment, the image of the
instructing profession. The various events are intended to demonstrate the versatility of the ski instructor as well as to
show case skiing and snow sports of all varieties. It shall also promote the exchange of experiences and the conviviality
between instructors.
1.4. The organization of the World Championships is entrusted to a member association, by the ISIA Assembly of delegates, at least 3 years beforehand. This association will be responsible for its entire organization and will assume its costs. At least two years before the event, it will announce the location, the program and the manner in which the Championships will unfold. The choice of date must take into account the instructors’ professional constraints. One year before the Championships, definitive prizes and all technical - organizational information’s must be published.
The association in charge of the organization will also assume the lodging expenses of the technical delegates, designated by the presidium, responsible together with the organizing associations for the smooth handling of the World Championship, according to the traditional spirit of the ISIA.
Travel and lodging expenses of the competitors and officials will be assumed by the national associations and must be paid to the organizer within the deadline fixed by him.
1.5. The World Championships will include the following events:
a) Giant slalom
b) Synchronized run / demonstration show
c) Boarder-cross
d) Carving-Dual-Relay
e) Nordic event
Additional events may be organized, if they are accepted by the presidium. Any changes to this program require a formal decision of the ISIA presidium.
1.6. Participation will be open to any instructor who is a regular member of any association affiliated with the ISIA. Participants must be bearers of the annual international badge and registered by their national association, which is also responsible for a registration in accordance with the statutes. Each national association will be attributed the following contingent of participants:
- Giant slalom: maximum of 20 participants
- Synchronized run / demonstration show: maximum of 6 teams
- Boarder-cross: no limitation
- Carving-Dual-Relay: maximum of 6 teams
- Nordic event: no limitation
The organizing country will be allowed to designate 25 participants for the giant slalom, 7 teams for the synchronized run / demonstration show and 7 teams for the Carving-Dual-Relay. Other limitations will be applied for monitors taking part, during the current season, in European Cup-, World Cup- (FIS) or (alpine skiing) races of “professional organization”. No limitation will be applied for Boarder-cross and Carving-Dual-Relay competitions.
1.7. Registration control and final admission to the events will be done and given by the Jury, which is appointed on the eve of the event day in the course of the meeting of heads of teams; it will be presided by a technical delegate and will include the event manager, the head of courses, a starting judge and a judge at the finish.
1.8. The World Championship medals will be made available by the ISIA. Other awards, such as cups and/or prizes, will be provided by the organizer.
1.9. The ISIA presidium will ensure that all regulations are respected and that the Championships are properly organized. It is also responsible for all decisions in relation with unforeseeable, unavoidable changes of regulations, which have to be taken on the spot.
1.10 For any directives, not specified thereafter, the FIS International Contest Rules will be applied.
2. Giant Slalom
2.1. The giant slalom will be held over two runs. The course for women and men will be the same.
2.2. The number of participants per national association will be open within the contingent limits set out in 1.6. Titleholders will take part above and beyond the set contingent.
2.3. For the first run, starts will be organized in the following order:
- women (2 performance groups)
- senior men (2 performance groups)
- elite men (3 performance groups)
2.4. The assignation of participants to the individual performance groups will take place during the meeting of heads of teams. As far as possible, the principle of giving each nation an equal chance to place their participants in the first group will be respected.
2.5. Participants older than 35 or more years, in other words those born in or prior to 1970 will be considered as seniors. The Jury may control the age of participants, which will be asked to produce a passport or identification card.
2.6. FIS race regulation will apply.
2.7. For the starting order of the second run the BIBO rule will be applied.
2.8. The following ratings and titles will be attributed according to measured times:

A senior obtaining the best time of the day will be titled as giant slalom champion and win the ISIA Cup. A team rating will be established for the participating nations. The rating will be obtained by simple addition of the two best times of elite men, the best senior time and the best women time.
3. Synchronized Run / Demonstration Show
3.1. Each team will comprise 6 participants. Each nation may register 6 teams. A team may include participants of different nations.
3.2. For each team qualification will include two runs, of the free choice of the team but without jumps. The use of skis as well as Telemark skis, Monocarve (skwal), is allowed. For each run, a maximum of 3 different devices may be used. Ten teams may qualify for the final competition. Per nation the number will be limited to 3. The final will value two runs.
3.3. The starting order for the first run of the final will be drawn at random. The order for the second run will be in the reverse order of the rating of the first run.
3.4. The general impression will be noted, considering aspects of: Technique, Synchronization, Symmetry, Dynamic, Originality, Grade of difficulty. Nations may organize their own music. For those not able to do so the organization will take over the organization.
3.5. The jury will include 5 experts elected by the presidium. As far as possible they should be members of the ISIA Technical Committee. It is not allowed to elect two jury members out of the same national association. The organizing association must be represented by one expert in the jury.
3.6. Each expert of the Jury will give marks from 1 to 10 with the option of attributing tenth of a marks (for instance 8.7 – 8.8 – 8.9). The best and the worst marks will not be taken into account. The total points for both runs will provide the ranking of the demonstration show. The marks will be announced on the spot of the course. If there is a tie on points between the two best teams in the final, a additional run with these two teams will be organized.
3.7. The team which finishes in first place will be awarded the ISIA Synchronized Run Cup.
3.8. The demonstration will end with a simultaneous run of all participating nations.
4. Boardercross
4.1. The Boarder-Cross will include qualifying rounds and a final course.
4.2. The following categories are defined: Women and men. The course for women and men will be the same. Order of departure:

4.3. Wearing a helmet and back protection will be mandatory.
4.4. Participants may practice on the course one to two hours before starting time or on the eve of the starting day. No official starting order will be used for practice runs.
4.5. FIS race regulation will apply.
4.6. Qualifying rounds will be held individually, against the clock. The best 8, 16 or 32 will qualify for the finals organized with 4 competitors on start. A KO system considering the times of the qualifying runs will be applied in order to define the pairs for the finals. The two best out of each run will qualify for the next round.
4.7. Disqualification: Participants pushing or pulling other competitors or hindering their motions or having body contact during the run will be automatically disqualified.
4.8. The following awards will be attributed:
- women: ISIA Boarder-Cross World Champion
- men: ISIA Boarder-Cross World Champion
5. Carving-Dual-Relay
5.1. The Carving-Dual Relay is a competition between teams of 4 competitors The KO system applies. Each team will consist of three skiers and one snowboarder. The participation of one woman is mandatory. The starting order will be ski – ski – ski – snowboard, but the starting order of skiers will be left to the decision of the team. Starting order of teams and choice of course will be chosen at random. Each team will have to run one heat per round. The semi-finalists will have to run two heats and each team will be given the opportunity to run on both courses. Qualifying for the final and the final itself will be based on the total of both times.
5.2. Each course will include 8 to 10 buoys.
5.3. The following award will be attributed: ISIA World Champion in Carving-Dual-Relay.
Nordic Event
6.1. The organizing committee may organize additional races or demonstrations for this or further disciplines.
